“Hidden Sugars” that Diabetics need to avoid!

What are types of Sugars that raise Insulin levels? What is the impact?

In the world we live in today, we see a lot of “fast” food or processed food. We see the chain of super markets serving us “packaged” food and also chain of food joints that are serve us “ready to eat food”. There are labels posted on food containers or packaged food. Have we every bothered to look what the labels say? We probably look for “fat” because we worry most of cholesterol. Of course, fats that are classified as “Trans” fat are dangerous for health. One more item that needs to be checked is the level of “sugar” in the food item.

The most common sugar that we are aware of today is the white sugar or the refined sugar. There is the sugar that is supposed to be not so refined – Brown sugar. Well, it is still sugar and comes under the category of carbs. We are well aware of the relation between Insulin and carbs.

For Diabetics and weight loss management, carbs in the form of sugar have to be avoided completely or kept at a minimal level. Simple reason. You do not want your insulin level to rise.

Where are the Hidden sugar in your food products.

  • Yogurt that is available in department stores or super markets are loaded with sugar. Think twice before you consume a flavoured yogurt if you are looking to cut your sugar level.
  • ANY Processed food – Cookies, Bread, etc
  • Noodles and soups – instant type
  • Fructose in fruits – consume only low glycemic fruits like Oranges or pomegranate. Other fruits contain high level of fructose that will spike your insulin level.
  • Dried Fruits – Dates, peaches, raisins etc. There is no water content in them and will spike glucose levels.
  • Breakfast cereals – corn flakes, cocos etc
  • Fruit juices – Bottled juices have high amount of sugar
  • Milk – Cow Milk has lactose as well. So, butter milk is better for consumption
  • Salad dressings – You thought they were healthy! Dressings are loaded with sugar as well.
  • The Pasta and barbecue sauces – You have no idea how many spoons of sugar are in them till you prepare them
  • Avoid the artificial sweetners as well.

The above is in most commonly used food products. Eliminate these sugars for about 10 days and you will see that your body feels light and you may have dropped some weight as well.

Simple, as you drop your insulin levels fat storage will drop and as you exercise the stored body fat will be burned for energy. Go on, lose those extra pounds of flab around your stomach.
