Lets talk about the Multi Vitamins. Do they help you?
The pharma industry is a huge market in promoting and selling multivitamin drugs. With the current life style and processed food around us, we are sure that our body will start encountering some dysfunction. Vitamins are prescribed starting from children to adults for a host of illness from the common cold to the more serious disorders. The question is does our body use the multi vitamins that we gulp down?
Lets understand that the vitamins that are manufactured and sold in the market are “synthetic” vitamins. They are extracted from different sources, refined and packaged. Fair enough, does the body absorb the vitamins? Maybe, only if the body is conducive to absorb the vitamins. Simple reasoning, it is a chemical reaction. A chemical reaction must have at least 2 or more elements to function. Chemical reaction is like a Mathematical equation (A+B=C). Some vitamins need another vitamin to be present for the chemical equation to work. Basic vitamins like Vitamin D are required before Vitamin C can be absorbed.
Vitamins are best produced by nature and the body absorbs the right level required for the functioning. Vitamin D from sun light are far more effective than the medication sources of vitamin D. In fact, excess of vitamins are also counter productive to our body.
In my view,Vitamins from natural sources, like vegetables and fruits are synthesised by the body and more effectively used.
Health Drinks on the shelves of the markets. Are they effective.
Most department stores and super markets have shelves filled with a variety of “health” drinks. Most target the macro nutrient protein. Added to it are now flavoured mix of these health drinks. New discoveries that boost metabolism in the form of DHEA are marketed as available in the food products. Exogenous products are not absorbed well by the body. Meaning, they energy has to be metabolised by the body.
There are sugar as well added to these products. Consumption by kids and weight gain are seen as healthy improvements by the parents. In reality, the weight gain may be attributed to the hidden sugar levels that are fortified(vitamins being added) or added to the product. Some countries, like France, are very strict on the food products being fortified.
